The Red Devils have made an enquiry to sign the young winger.
Manchester United have confirmed their intentions of signing young Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling, by making an informal enquiry for the newest England International.
According to a report from Goal.com, Manchester United want to take advantage of the contract dispute between Liverpool and the player to steal him away from their bitter rivals.
Sterling, who turns 18 on Saturday has reportedly refused the offer made by the club and is expecting an improved deal as negotiations continue, between the player’s representatives and the Anfield management.
Reds’ manager Brendan Rodgers’ comment that the youngster was ‘very foolish’ to reject the club’s initial offer was not well received by the player’s camp and the relationship of both parties is now not as close as it once was. Sterling has enjoyed a meteoric rise into the first-team this season, playing himself into the starting eleven.
United are keeping close tabs on the situation and will launch an official bid in January if the stand-off has not been resolved by then.
Sir Alex Ferguson sees Sterling as a possible replacement for the out-of-favour Nani, who is likely to leave Old Trafford in the near future.
