Emirates Stadium side about to complete experienced forward purchase.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is poised to join Arsenal in January, according to French newspaper L’Equipe.
The prolific Dutch striker, who has bagged 58 goals in his last 68 Bundesliga games for Schalke, has just six months remaining on his contract after which he can leave the Gelsenkerchin side on a Bosman.
However, in a break from his spendthrift nature, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is prepared to fork out around £4million for the former Ajax and Real Madrid striker, who is believed be keen on a move to the Premier League.
This old chestnut has been going on for some months now but with the transfer window re-opening in a few weeks there is every possibility that a deal is set to be completed.
Arsenal could well do with fresh attacking options as Olivier Giroud is seemingly the only player Arsene Wenger is willing to play in an orthodox striking role, despite the fact that Lukas Podolski, Gervinho and perhaps even Theo Walcott, can all play in the position.
Huntelaar has seen his career take off since he moved to the Bundesliga, putting to bed the miseries he endured at Real Madrid and AC Milan.
The 29 year old enjoyed a fruitful partnership with Raul in his first two seasons at Schalke, netting an incredible 48 goals last term, and has continued to flourish despite the Spanish veteran’s departure. Thus far the former Ajax man has scored 10 goals during the current campaign, including four in the Champions League group stages.
Though Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will apparently be handed significant funds to invest in his squad in January he would probably still prefer to pick up bargain buy’s and getting a player of Huntelaar’s experience and ability for just £4m may be too good an opportunity to pass up on.
