Roberto Mancini hopes to bring Stamford Bridge left-back to the Etihad.
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is planning a shock move for Chelsea left back Ashley Cole.
The 31-year-old looks set to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season on a free transfer after he was unable to agree a new deal with the club.
French club Paris St Germain are favourites to sign Cole where he could link up with his former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti.

A move to bring Ashley Cole to the Etihad Stadium would be a wise, and cost effective, one to consider. Whilst clearly the 31 year old would demand a kings ransom to join Man City the fact that he wouldn’t cost a penny would greatly negate that issue.
Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov have been sharing left-back duties at the club and neither has covered themselves in glory this term and Cole could well improve on the options currently available to Roberto Mancini.
Cole is likely to be offered only a one year deal by Chelsea as the West London side have a policy of only offering short term contracts to players over 30, a similar issue could also see Frank Lampard leave Stamford Bridge in the summer as he too sees his contract come to an end at the close of this season.
Ashley Cole still has a fair few years in the tank and is fighting fit and rarely injured and clearly making a potentially contentious move from Chelsea to Man City will not be an issue given his previous switch from Arsenal to his current employers.
The Chelsea man has racked up 276 appearances for the Blues and is into his seventh season at the club and has secured a Premier League title, four FA Cup successes and a Champions League triumph during that period.
