St Mary’s side keen on Parkhead forward.
Southampton manager Nigel Adkins will make another attempt next month to lure Gary Hooper south of the border from Celtic.
Adkins has striker Billy Sharp at Nottingham Forest and Lee Barnard at Bournemouth on loan but is looking for a class striker to play alongside Rickie Lambert in the Saints attack.

Southampton boss Nigel Adkins knows Gary Hooper well from their shared time together at Scunthorpe United but it may prove tough to convince the in-form striker to leave Celtic for the struggling Saints, not least because the SPL side have qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League.
The 24 year old has been a prolific marksman at Celtic with 63 goals in 108 appearances, 12 of the goals coming this season.
Though the St Mary’s side have struggled for much of the campaign the South Coast side have not had a problem finding the back of the net, Southampton having managed a decent total of 22 goals from their 16 Premier League fixtures.
A number of sides have been linked with Celtic’s top talent in recent months but that qualification into the knockout stages of the Champions League may well ward off interest in the January transfer window.
