Old Trafford side target PSV Eindhoven duo.
Sir Alex Ferguson has set his sights on young PSV Eindhoven duo Jetro Willems and Kevin Strootman as he seeks to strengthen his Old Trafford squad.
The Man United manager has earmarked moves for the duo having sent scouts to monitor their progress over the past few months. Ferguson has been looking to freshen up a midfield that has lacked direction thus far this season. Ferguson feels that whilst his defence has been something of a shambles this season he also believes that his midfield has been too easily overrun by opposition advances.
Rangy 22 year old midfielder Strootman is a player Ferguson sees as a potential long term replacement for veteran Paul Scholes and the former Utrecht man has been linked with a move away from PSV Eindhoven pretty much from the moment he arrived at the Phillips Stadion.
Strootman has been mighty impressive over the past 18 months, displaying the kind of form that has attracted a host of scouts to watch his every move and helping PSV to the top of the Eredivisie table.
Ferguson’s is looking to lure left-back Willems away from PSV as he seeks to bring in a long term replacement for French veteran Patrice Evra.
The teenage left-back was one of the few bright spots in Holland’s disastrous Euro 2012 campaign and the 18 year old has continued to impress in the PSV Eindhoven first team this season, becoming a regular under new boss Dick Advocaat.
Though Ferguson brought in Alexander Buttner over the summer the Scot has only handed the former Vitesse man just one Premier League appearance thus far this season.
Man United are said to be ready to offer up to €35m (£28m) to PSV Eindhoven for the pair.
