Stamford Bridge side continue to track Corinthians midfielder.
Chelsea switch sights to Paulinho after Luiz lauds Corinthians midfielder
David Luiz has encouraged Chelsea to reignite their pursuit for Brazilian midfielder Paulinho as the Blues bid to strengthen their midfield in January.
SOURCE: Daily Mail
Chelsea have been strongly linked with Corinthians midfielder Paulinho for some weeks now and it’s clearly fairly handy for the West London side to be in the same competition with the Brazilian side at the FIFA Club World Cup as it could give the Premier League side a chance to discuss such a move for the 24 year old.
Injured Spaniard Oriel Romeu could be out for some months and this has left interim boss Rafa Benitez with only one recognised holding midfielder in John Obi Mikel, he too will be unavailable for much of January and February due to his participation in the African Nations Cup, therefore there is certainly a need for just such a signing, especially as Chelsea’s Premier League title hopes are hanging by a thread after indifferent form.
Paulinho is a little more than just a holding midfielder, he is also able to move forwards with the ball and create an effective link between midfield and attack. Indeed the Brazilian international also gets more than his fair share of goals, netting 35 goals in the last three seasons.
Paulinho would join fellow countrymen David Luiz, Oscar, Ramires, Wallace and Lucas Piazon in a Chelsea squad stacked with Brazilian talent.
