Players the Emirates Stadium side should consider bringing in when the transfer window re-opens next month.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Schalke)
A striker purchase must be very high up on Arsene Wenger’s wish-list and despite the fact that the Gunners boss has reportedly a great deal of money to spend in the transfer window he still has an eye for a bargain.
The Dutch international will be available ‘on the cheap’ as he will be out of contract in the summer and appears to be holding off on opening talks with Schalke over a new deal. Having plied his trade in the Eredivisie, La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga the 29 year old could well be tempted by a move to the Premier League.
Huntleaar netted 48 goals last term and has been very effective this term, especially in the Champions League where he has proved prolific (netting against Arsenal among others).
Despite the fact that Olivier Giroud is still bedding in at the Emirates Stadium there is no denying that the lack of alternatives leaves Wenger hamstrung and having to consider the use of ‘lesser’ talents like Gervinho, or in some extreme circumstances, Marouane Chamakh.
This is mainly due to Wenger feeling that Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott are of better use in wide attacking roles. A move for Huntelaar will beef up numbers and hand Arsenal an in-form goal-scoring weapon they badly need.
