Nou Camp starlet could be Anfield bound, if the right price is paid.
Barcelona have scuppered Liverpool’s hopes of signing Spanish starlet Cristian Tello by handing him a new deal – but the Reds will be encouraged by his £8m buyout clause.
The Anfield side had been chasing Tello, 21, for the last few months but he will now continue his career in Catalonia.
The winger’s new deal ties him to the Nou Camp club until 2016.
Liverpool may be encouraged by Tello’s new buyout clause though – it is set at £8m.
Clearly Cristian Tello’s new contract gives hope that any interested party can land the young Barcelona star, for the right price.
In today’s transfer market £8m seems more than a fair price for a player of Tello’s ability and potential and a price well within Liverpool’s budget, despite the fact that boss Brendan Rodgers is not being backed in the same manner financially as predecessor Kenny Dalglish was.
The 21 year old adaptable attacker can play on the flanks as well as in a supporting striker role and could perhaps be open to a possible move to a side that is more likely to offer him first team football.
The Spanish Under 21 international would neatly adhere to Liverpool’s youthful transfer policy whilst being a much needed boost to the club’s threadbare attacking options.
Tello has made eight starts for Barcelona in all competitions this season, scoring three goals in the process.
