St Mary’s boss earmarks move for two solid additions.
CalcioMercato report that Nigel Adkins will be handed a decent level of funding to help drag his Saints side clear of the dropzone and the Southampton boss has earmarked moves to improve his leaky defence whilst also targeting a player he hopes will improve his attacking options to boot.
Adkins hopes to bring in Scott Dann from Blackburn Rovers and the Liverpudlian defender would certainly help to beef up the back-line though clearly it’s worth noting he was part of both the Rovers and Birmingham City side’s that both failed to beat the drop. That said the 25 year old is a very solid centre-back and one that would certainly improve on what is currently in the St Mary’s armoury.
Southampton have shipped in 32 goals in 16 games so clearly this is an area Adkins could do with getting a hold on.
Up front the former Scunthorpe United boss wants to bring in his old charge Gary Hooper, who is of course doing wonders at Celtic. The Harlow born forward has netted 64 goals in 110 games for the Parkhead side, leading to talk of a possible England call-up, which could perhaps become more of a reality if he was plying his trade in the Premier League.
However it seems unlikely Hooper would look to make the move back South of the Border as Celtic are still in the Champions League and riding high at the top of the SPL, especially as he could end up making a move to the English top tier only to then perhaps being part of a side that sinks back to the Championship.
