Emirates Stadium side set sights on in-form Bundesliga attacker.
Arsene Wenger is ready to make a January offer for Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle as he looks to strengthen his Arsenal attack next month.
The 22 year old has been strongly linked with interest from Chelsea, who failed in a summer bid for the Bayer Leverkusen man in the summer, and the North London club are ready to offer £22m to tempt the Bundesliga side to sell their prized asset.
The former Mainz man has been in excellent form this season, helping Sami Hyypiä’s side to lead the chasing pack behind runaway leaders Bayern Munich and the young German international has spoken previously about his interest in a move to the English top tier and the opportunity to join Arsenal may well tempt Schurrle.
The adaptable forward can play either in a wide role or as a support striker, where he has formed a successful partnership with powerful forward Stefan Kiessling over the past 18 months.
Arsene Wenger is looking to beef up an attack that currently relieves too heavily on summer signing Olivier Giroud and after a number of scouting assessments the Emirates Stadium boss will look to his board to fund a club record breaking bid for the highly rated attacker.
The Gunners boss finds himself having to fight to secure, at the very least, a top four finish and as such is ready to spend in January and the added bonus of Schurrle’s availability to play in the Champions League knockout stages will not have been lost on Wenger who is also looking to appease an unhappy fanbase with a run in the showpiece tournament.
The presence of Schurrle’s national team colleagues Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker at the Emirates Stadium may encourage the Bay Arena forward to consider a move to Arsenal.
