Stamford Bridge side keen on Atletico Madrid boss.
Diego Simeone’s name has been added to the list of managers Chelsea will turn to if Pep Guardiola snubs Stamford Bridge.
There is concern at Chelsea that Guardiola is going off the idea of joining the Blues.
Guardiola has put Manchester United top of his wishlist of clubs and is also a target for Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
Rafa Benitez has the chance to prove he could take the Chelsea post permanently, but the club are also drawing up a list of alternatives. Jose Mourinho’s expected availability has been noted, while Atletico Madrid boss Simeone (above) has been added along with Dortmund’s Jurgen Klopp.

42 year old Argentine Diego Simeone is a relative newcomer to management, now into his sixth year in the trade having spent two spells at Racing Club de Avellaneda, brief periods at Estudiantes, River Plate and San Lorenzo and a spell in Italy with Catania before his move to the Vicente Calderon.
Simeone took over at Atletico from Gregorio Manzano last December and helped steady the ship and lead Madrid’s ‘other club’ to a Europa League triumph and has seen his side go from strength to strength in La Liga this season.
Atletico Madrid have won 12 out of 16 matches this season, losing only to Real Madrid and Barcelona and putting up a decent fight to keep the Spanish giants apart in the domestic title race.
Perhaps it’s too early to judge Simeone’s quality in terms of success on a European scale and the former tigerish midfielder would certainly be behind both Jose Mourinho and Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp in the Blues pecking order.
