Reds interested in Real wide-man.

Liverpool are interested in a January move for Real Madrid’s bit-part player Jose Callejon but could face competition from Tottenham, fanatix has learnt.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to add some extra firepower to his Liverpool squad and believes the Spanish right-winger could be available in January.

Rodgers is also interested in Tom Ince of Blackpool and Daniel Sturridge of Chelsea but is wary of paying over-odds for English players, a criticism levelled at Kenny Dalglish, the man he replaced at Anfield.

However, it is understood that Tottenham, who signed a strategic partnership with the Spaniards in the summer, have asked Real to keep them inform of the situation and could challenge Liverpool for Callejon’s signature.

Brendan Rodgers’ quest to add a pacey wide-man to his Liverpool squad has seen the Anfield club linked with a whole host of names, from Daniel Sturridge to Christian Tello.

The latest winger reportedly being lined-up for a move to Merseyside is Real Madrid’s Jose Callejon and Liverpool could do a lot worse than the former Espanyol man.

Despite playing in the most star-studded squad in world football, Callejon has still managed to impress this season for Real Madrid and boasts two Champions League goals to his name plus a handful of starts in La Liga.

Even so, the Spaniard is now 25 and may feel that he is ready to be playing from the start week-in-week-out, a guarantee that midtable Liverpool would undoubtedly be willing to offer the forward.

Real are likely to demand considerably more than the £4m they paid Espanyol for Callejon but as an uncapped overseas player, he is likely to be better value for money than Englishmen Sturridge or Tom Ince.

Spurs may yet have other ideas and if Andre Villas-Boas decides to move for Callejon, they player will face a choice between a realistic chance of Champions League football next season with Spurs or the history and stunning fan base offered by Liverpool.
