Old Trafford manager says he will not be buying next month. Just a mind game or is the Scot telling the truth?
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed he will ‘definitely not’ be adding to his Manchester United squad during the January transfer window.
The United manager invested in his squad during the summer by splashing out to bring in Robin van Persie from Arsenal and Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund.
Ferguson also recruited Alexander Buttner as cover at left-back and snapped up the highly-rated teenage midfielder Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra.
However, there has been speculation that Ferguson will try to make further additions in the New Year in order to cement United’s position at the top of the Premier League table.
Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski and Arsenal winger Theo Walcott are among the players to have been linked with moves to Old Trafford, but Ferguson is not planning for any new arrivals.
“I will not be bringing anybody in, in January, definitely not,” Ferguson told the Mail on Sunday.

So that’s that then?
Well maybe not. Clearly Sir Alex Ferguson is a genius when it comes to mind games and it would be a tad surprising if he didn’t consider a move to solidify his leaky defence though perhaps the long awaited return of Nemanja Vidic will render that need a little less urgent.
Man United are six points clear at the top of the Premier League table and safely through to the last 16 of the Champions League so perhaps the Scot is happy with the squad he has in place.
However note that Ferguson states he will not be ‘bringing anyone in’ that doesn’t then mean he wouldn’t choose to offload any players he feels he no longer needs.
One player who could be set for an Old Trafford departure is Nani, the Portuguese international now playing an increasingly limited role in first team affairs this term.
