Villa Park side chase Etihad Stadium youngster.
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert targets Manchester City forward John Guidetti to bolster his forward line
Paul Lambert is ready to make a renewed attempt to sign Manchester City forward John Guidetti on loan.
Lambert, the Aston Villa manager, will enter the January chase to sign the Sweden international for the rest of the season, with old mentor Martin O’Neill likely to prove one of his main competitors.
Guidetti signed a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium in October and will be fully fit in the New Year after recovering from a virus that left him with paralysis in his right leg.
Presumably any move by Aston Villa to sign Man City youngster John Guidetti would spell the end of Darren Bent’s Villa Park career. The England man has barely had a look-in in terms of first team action, losing his spot to in-form Belgian Christian Benteke, and though Paul Lambert has been at pain to state that the 28 year old former Tottenham man is part of his first team plans the Scot hasn’t handed the experienced striker a Premier League start for two months.
Guidetti will struggle to even get a seat on the Man City bench given that Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko are ahead of him in Roberto Mancini’s pecking order so a move to establish a grounding in Premier League experience will surely benefit all parties.
The young Swede spent a season out on loan at Feyenoord last term and showed just what he is capable of, netting 20 goals in 23 Eredivisie appearances.
Man City have tied the youngster down to a long term contract so they do rate him, but clearly need the player to get some games under his belt to help his career progression.
