Old Trafford side plot move for young midfielder.
Manchester United are lining up a summer bid for Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera, according to reports in South America.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was linked with a move for Herrera, a key player in Mexico’s victorious Olympic Games football team, last summer.
That deal fell through but the 22-year-old’s club, Pachuca, have confirmed they expect the £9m-rated midfielder to leave at the end of the current season.
Sir Alex Ferguson may be reticent to fork out as much as £9m for Herrera, after all Javier Hernandez is thought to have cost Man United in the region of £6m and he was in a far more advanced stage of his fledgling career.
Though Hector Herrera was a key player in Mexico’s 2012 Olympic triumph he is still something of an unknown quantity but Sir Alex Ferguson has in all likelihood had the midfielder extensively scouted in much the same manner he approached the capture of Javier Hernandez.
The Pachuca player is a box to box performer, known for putting in his fair share of tough tackling but able to push on forwards and is considered one of the hottest prospects in Mexican football.
The 22 year old only made his top tier debut just over a year ago so it goes some way to show the midfielder’s progress that he is now being linked with genuine interest from Old Trafford.
