Stamford Bridge side eye up White Hart Lane full-back.
Chelsea are considering a bid to steal Benoit Assou-Ekotto from Tottenham.
With Ashley Cole set to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, Chelsea need a new left-back.
Assou-Ekotto was one of Tottenham’s best players last season, but the 28-year-old has barely played for new boss Andre Villas-Boas because of a troublesome knee injury.
Chelsea are looking at testing the water with a £5million bid for Assou-Ekotto, which would still give Tottenham a good profit on the Cameroon international who they signed from French club Lens for £3.5million in 2006.

Chelsea may well feel the need to bring in a replacement for the seemingly exit bound Ashley Cole but the West London side have set their sights on Southampton teenager Luke Shaw but may be looking for a more experienced option to fill the role.
Ryan Bertrand would seem to be a more logical ‘in-house’ option to consider but arguably the England man is better suited to a more advanced wide role, such as the spot he filled in the 2012 Champions League Final when the Blues youngster played ahead of Cole against Bayen Munich.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto has had some issues with injuries but when fully fit may struggle to unseat Jan Vertonghen who has been a regular in the left-back slot. Kyle Naughton is another player Andre Villas-Boas may choose to turn to on a long term basis so the Cameroon international would probably jump at the chance of a move to Stamford Bridge.
The 28 year old has made three Premier League starts thus far this season and a total of 186 appearances in total for Tottenham since his move to the North London club in the summer of 2006.
