Stamford Bridge and Anfield sides given hope in Brazilian chase.
Chelsea and Liverpool remain in the hunt to sign AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato after Corinthians denied stories that they had agreed a deal to sign the Brazilian star.
Pato has been strongly linked with a move back to South America and reports circulated that Corinthians had agreed a move with the prolific forward.
But the 23-year-old has still got a long way to go before a deal can be finalised.
The news will come as a big boost to both Chelsea and Liverpool who have both been linked with Pato.
The talented forward stated during the summer that he could be tempted by a move to the Premier League and both Rafael Benitez and Brendan Rodgers are monitoring his situation closely.
It did seem as though Alexandre Pato was Corinthians bound but apparently talk of a move back to Brazil was premature. This has led to speculation that a move to the Premier League was still a possibility for the 23 year old forward.
Of the two sides named you have to think Chelsea would be favourites. Not just because the West London side are genuine title challengers and regular competitors at Champions League level but also because the Stamford Bridge side have a host of Pato’s international colleagues among their numbers.
The likes of Oscar, David Luiz, Lucas Piazon and Ramires would all welcome the arrival of the AC Milan man who’s San Siro adventure does appear to be coming to a close.
Liverpool could well do with alternative attacking options, having relied far too heavily on Luis Suarez for the past 18 months. However a move for Pato could be a tough one to pull off, especially as the Merseyside club are still stuck in tmid-table after a shaky first half of the Premier League campaign.
