Stamford Bridge side keen on Bernabeu wide-man.
Spanish source Marca claims that Chelsea retain an interest in Real Madrid wide-man Fabio Coentrao.
The Marca state that Chelsea could pounce as the Portuguese international is considering his options and the Portuguese international is concerned that the possible arrival of Gareth Bale, the Tottenham man known to be a Real Madrid target, could further limit his involvement in the first team.
Fabio Coentrao was brought in to challenge Marcelo’s dominance at left-back but has been unable to unseat the Brazilian from his spot and as such the he may feel it is time to consider leaving the Bernabeu.
There is every chance that the 24 year old will stagnate on the bench at Real Madrid and could well therefore be tempted by the chance to move to the Premier League.
Ashley Cole sees his Chelsea contract run out in the summer and as yet no new deal has been agreed. The West London club adopt a policy of only offering one year extensions for players over the age of 30, regardless of whether they are first team regulars or not.
Coentrao cost Real Madrid £24m 18 months ago and is tied down to a long term contract and as such it could prove costly were the Blues to push to land Coentrao, though there is no doubting the former Benfica man could be a very useful addition to the Chelsea squad.
Fabio Coentrao has made just six La Liga appearances thus far this season.
