Newcastle United are expected to announce the signing of Mathieu Debuchy this week. ITV Football have reported that the 27-year old Lille defender is due to travel to the North-East after a fee was agreed between the two clubs.
The full-back is set to cost Alan Pardew in the region of £5 million. The Newcastle manager has been chasing Debuchy for some time, having been disappointed by not landing the defender in the summer. Now a fee has been agreed, a proposed medical and the discussion of personal terms look set to be concluded by the end of this week.
No indication has been made yet as to whether he will make an appearance in the crowd for tonight’s match with Everto
Since the summer transfer window of 2012, the new year has pushed Pardew into action, with a spate of injuries and suspensions leaving the Toon defence exposed. With Danny Simpson rejecting a contract extension, a shift in personnel at right-back looks increasingly likely.
Alan Pardew is also adamant of concluding any confusion over Demba Ba’s situation. The Senegal international has held talks Chelsea which have yet to fruition. West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie has been touted as a replacement upfront, but sources at Tyneside have rejected such claims.
