Emirates Stadium side target talented forward.
Arsenal are weighing up a shock January move for Manchester City maverick Mario Balotelli, according to reports.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is understood to be an admirer of the Italian and believes he can bring the best of out the controversial striker.
Balotelli has only managed one Premier League goal this season for the Champions, with manager Roberto Mancini favouring Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko in attack.
The former Inter Milan star has been linked with a move back to Italy this month, with Inter’s city rivals AC Milan reportedly keen on a cut-price deal for the 22-year-old.
Mancini has insisted that Balotelli will remain at the Etihad Stadium but Wenger is understood to weighing-up a shock move for the Italian international forward.
If Arsene Wenger feels he can control Mario Balotelli’s suspect temperament both on and off the field of play, and that’s a pretty huge IF, then clearly the Italian youngster is an incredibly talented footballer who could grace Arsenal’s attack with aplomb.
The 22 year old would adhere to the Gunners youthful squad policy and would add a proven Premier League marksman to their numbers.
A move for the Man City man wouldn’t be cheap but then Wenger, and the Arsenal board, know they have to both appease a fan-base who has grown disillusioned with the lengthy lean spell the North London club are firmly entrenched in, and are also aware of the club’s shortcomings in a few positions.
Balotelli returned from a successful Euro 2012 finals buoyed by his own individual good form and probably expecting a lengthy spell in the Man City first team to prove himself.
However this hasn’t been the case. Of the four strikers available to Roberto Mancini Balotelli has had the least playing time and this has in turn affected his form when he is selected. Indeed the youngster has managed just one goal in 13 Premier League appearances thus far this term.
Arsenal boss Wenger will have been greatly pleased by the manner in which Theo Walcott has taken to life as an out and out striker and this has helped to push Olivier Giroud into a better run of form.
However there is no doubting that the addition of more striking firepower is an area that the Emirates Stadium side could seek improvement this month.
