Anfield side keen on Etihad Stadium defender.
Check in to Mansfield Town vs Liverpool
Italian source TuttoMercato claim that Liverpool are keen on Man City defender Micah Richards.
The adaptable England international, who can play at full-back or in the centre of defence, has made just three Premier League starts this season having suffered a knee injury in October and may struggle to retain a place in Roberto Mancini’s first team picture when he returns to full fitness.
The 24 year old Birmingham born defender has made over 200 appearances for the Etihad Stadium side but towards the end of last term saw his first team chances limited and could well be tempted by a new challenge at Liverpool if he felt that his days at Man City were numbered.
Mancini has a number of central defensive options, so much so that Joleon Lescott, a mainstay last term, has been frozen out in preference to young Serbian Matija Nastasi?.
At right-back, Richards other prominent position, Pablo Zabaleta has perhaps been Man City’s most consistent performer and Maicon is a damn fine back-up option.
As such Liverpool’s interest in Richards could well bear fruit, especially if the Man City man felt that there was a good chance he would stagnate on the bench as many others have done in the recent past.
