Emirates Stadium side given fresh hope in move for in-form striker.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly readying a bid for Fiorentina’s highly rated forward Stevan Jovetic as he looks to supplement his Gunners attack.
Wenger is set to register his interest in the Montenegrin after the Serie A side confirmed a deal to bring in Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi which has led some to believe this could leave the door open to a significant offer for Jovetic being considered by the Stadio Artemi Franchi side.
The 23 year old has been in fine form over the past 18 months and has reveled in a new role as an out and out striker. Last term Jovetic netted 14 Serie A goals last term and has already racked up eight this term to help Vincenzo Montella’s side mount a genuine chase for a Champions League berth.
The former Partizan Belgrade attacker is into his five season at Fiorentina and could well be tempted by the prospect of a Premier League move and Arsene Wenger is keen to land the in-form striker to help strengthen the Arsenal attack.
For much of the season Wenger has relied heavily on summer signing Olivier Giroud, who has had a patchy first term in England, but has recently opted to use Theo Walcott in his preferred striking role with positive results. And though both Lukas Podolski and Gervinho could be used as forwards both are more often employed in wide areas.
It would take an offer of around £20m to entice Fiorentina into selling Jovetic, in excess of Arsenal’s club record fee, but Arsene Wenger may well insist on transfer funding of new levels in order to bring an end to a lengthy lean spell for the North London club.
