Anfield manager warns Liverpool fans not to expect too many more signings
Liverpool manager Brendan Rogers has warned the club’s fans not to expect too many more signings this January.
Speaking on the official Liverpool FC website, Rogers claimed ‘We are not going to have a lot of money to do anything [else] in the window’.
Rogers went on to suggest there may be enough left in the coffers for one more signing but was coy on the exact details of such a transfer.
Liverpool confirmed the signing yesterday of Daniel Sturridge for an undisclosed fee, rumoured to be around the £12 million mark, and after another big spending summer, where the club splashed almost £30 million on the likes of Joe Allen and Fabio Borini, the Anfield club seem ready to put a hold on bringing in new players until the summer.
The departure of Joe Cole to West Ham has cost the club an additional £3 million pound with the player unwilling to move unless Liverpool agreed a compensation package with him for the remainder of his contract.
The Anfield club’s hand was slightly forced however as they were faced with the prospect of paying £7 million to Cole were he to see out the remainder of his deal.
They may still make one last move for young Blackpool star, Tom Ince, and a deal is rumoured to be almost complete. Liverpool are keen to move swiftly though with a number of clubs, including Tottenham and Manchester United ready to swoop should the deal break down.
