Redknapp makes move for former Tottenham striker
Recently appointed QPR boss Harry Redknapp is ready to offer England striker Darren Bent an escape route from his Aston Villa nightmare.
The former Tottenham striker has found himself increasingly marginalised at Villa following the arrival of Paul Lambert during the summer and a source close to Redknapp has told Caughtoffside that the QPR manager is on the verge of making a move.
Despite initially making Bent captain, Bent has found his playing time increasingly restricted in favour of £7 million summer signing from Genk, Belgium forward Christian Benteke.
The player believes he has what it takes to score goals in the top flight and is ready to make a move to the London club in order to secure regular first team football.
Redknapp is looking for reinforcements to revive his flagging QPR side, who currently sit bottom of the table.
They sit five points away from Southampton who sit just above the relegation zone in 17th.
Redknapp knows that if QPR are going to survive they will need to hit the back more regularly in the second half of the season.
QPR are the lowest scoring team in the league this season, having managed a mere 17 goals, but Redknapp hopes Bent can provide some much needed firepower to his side.
Bent admitted he asked to leave Tottenham because the then manager, Redknapp, commented that his wife, Sandra, could have scored one of the chances Bent had missed. But both player and manager are reported to be happy to put the incident in the past and work together again at Loftus Road.
