Emirates Stadium side plot bids for two talented defenders.
Arsenal are believed to be planning moves for Montpellier star Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and West Bromwich Albion’s utility man Jonas Olsson in the January transfer window.
France international Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is reportedly at the top of Arsene Wenger’s list for January, with Olsson considered a good option to recruit as a backup player when others are absent.
Whilst some may correctly feel that Arsenal would deem their strike-force as an area that could do with reinforcement more urgently Arsene Wenger also appears to be looking to strengthen his defence.
Arsenal have conceded 22 goals in 20 Premier League matches, including six in their past four matches, and the Gunners boss has his sights set on a couple of potential additions that will certainly add more strength in depth to his back-line.
With Johan Djorou moving to Hannover on a loan deal and Wenger stating that Sebastien Squillaci is also likely to leave this month there is perhaps room for another central defender to beef up the numbers and experienced West Brom defender Jonas Olsson may well be tempted by a move to the Emirates Stadium.
The 29 year old Swede may be confident that he can challenge the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker for a first team spot and with over 150 West Brom appearances to his name the tough tackling defender may well be a player Wenger feels is up for the task.
Arsenal have been linked with interest in Montpellier’s 23 year old captain for some time and the French international may well be ready to consider a move away from the Ligue 1 title holders. Arsene Wenger is said to be an admirer of the adaptable defender who can play across the back four.
Yanga-Mbiwa is most often used as a centre back and has this year forced his way into Didier Deschamps French national team set-up playing a regular role in France’s 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.
