San Siro clear-out to continue with Abate.
The January transfer window clear-out at AC Milan could continue with the departure of Italian international defender Ignazio Abate as the Rossoneri look to bounce back from a disappointing first half of the Serie A season.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Russian side Zenit St Petersburg have tabled a €10million offer for the 26-year-old full-back, who came through the youth system at the San Siro before departing and having spells with Napoli, Sampdoria, Piacenza, Modena, Empoli and Torino before returning in 2009 since when he has been a regular at the heart of the AC Milan defence.
Big-spending Zenit St Petersburg are coached by Italian Luciano Spalletti and have fellow Italian international defender Domenico Criscito in their squad.
AC Milan have already sold Alexandre Pato to Brazilian side Corinthians in the January transfer window and are also likely to offload Robinho, who is wanted by former club Santos in a €7million deal although Milan are holding out for their €10million asking price.
AC Milan are preparing to use the transfer fees to table a €35million bid for Mario Balotelli from Manchester City, according to the reports. They are also interested in Juventus’ Alessandro Matri, another product of the youth system at the San Siro, who played under Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri at Cagliari.
