Portuguese midfielder wanted at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham are to try to sign Portuguese international midfielder Joao Moutinho during the January transfer window despite being priced out a move in the summer.
White Hart Lane supremo Daniel Levy tabled a £24million offer in the summer for the 26-year-old FC Porto star following the appointment of Andre Villas-Boas as manager but the bid was turned down.
But Villas-Boas, who managed Moutinho during his time in charge of FC Porto before being named as Chelsea boss, is keen to add to his squad this month as he looks to secure a top-four Premier League finish and book a place in the Champions League next season.
Both Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore have been told they can leave White Hart Lane, clearing the route to sign Moutinho, who is expected to cost less than the £24million offered in the summer, several British Sunday newspapers reported.
Moutinho could be joined at Tottenham by Internacional’s Brazilian international star Leandro Damiao, who is the subject of a £15million plus out-of-favour goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes offer.
Tottenham have already captured £3million Zeki Fryers, the former Manchester United defender, from Standard Liege and completed the signing of midfielder Lewis Holtby from Schalke with the German under-21 captain due to join in the summer.
