Derby County youngster close to move to the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City are closing in on the capture of Derby County’s talented teenage midfielder Will Hughes in a £7million deal.
Central midfielder Hughes is one of the brightest talents in British football having come through the ranks at Derby and starred in the Championship at the age of 17.
And Manchester City have jumped to the head of the queue to sign Hughes, already an England under-21 international, during the transfer window and beat off competition from city rivals Manchester United, Tottenham, Fulham and Barcelona, who have also had scouts at Pride Park to watch him.
The Sunday People also report that City would not be willing to loan Hughes back to Derby for the remainder of the season should the deal – said to be worth £7million plus add-ons based on appearances and future international honours – go through in January.
City were also linked with a £45million move to Napoli’s Uruguayan international striker Edison Cavani on Sunday as a replacement for Mario Balotelli, who is expected to leave the club in the transfer window following his bust-up with manager Roberto Mancini with AC Milan leading the chase for his signature, and the injured Sergio Aguero, who has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury.
