Bernabeu president Florentino Perez looks to complete shock Nou Camp swoop.
Spanish source Sport.es claim that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has set his sights on a mouthwatering move to bring in Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets.
Perez has stated his intention to land a ‘marquee’ signing in the summer, making such a timely promise ahead of presidential elections, and it appears that he hopes to lure Spanish international Busquets to the Bernabeu in a deal that would certainly be quite an achievement for the Real Madrid president to pull off.
Busquets is perhaps a player who doesn’t get the full credit he deserves, doing a great deal of the ‘dirty work’ that leaves time and space for Barcelona’s more creative talents to shine. However his ability and importance will not be lost on the Catalan club’s management team and they will certainly push Barcelona’s board to thwart any potential move from Real Madrid to land the 24 year old.
Sergio Busquets is into his fifth season in the Barcelona first team and has been a virtual ever present since his La Liga debut back in September 2008 and has racked up 213 appearances and won a host of honours including three domestic titles, two Copa del Rey successes and two Champions League triumphs, not to mention over 50 national team caps, a World Cup and a European Championship winners medal.
Perez may feel that Busquets could act as Real Madrid’s metronome, a player who can provide an obstacle to opposition advances and break up the play before expertly distributing to the ball to his more attack minded colleagues.
It would cost Real Madrid a huge price to persuade Barcelona to even consider offers for a player who is contracted to the Catalan club until the summer of 2015 and has a reported €150m release clause.
