Young Belgian defender wanted at Villa Park.
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is interested in signing Lazio defender Luis Cavanda to plug his leaky defence, according to the player’s agent.
Cavanda, a Belgium under-21 international team-mate of Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, has been with Lazio since the age of 18 and has made 35 appearances in Italian football including spells on loan at Torino and Bari.
But Villa have not been put off by Angolan-born Cavanda’s relative inexperience and Lambert is keeping a close eye on the youngster, who could provide another much-needed option in defence with Aston Villa having the worst goal difference in the Premier League.
Ulisse Savini, a representative for Cavanda, told Sky Sports of Aston Villa’s interest in the 21-year-old, whose contract runs until the end of next season: “I’ll meet Lazio to talk about Cavanda next week. We want to plan his future.
“There are no official offers for him right now, but it is pleasing to know that he is liked. There are a lot of clubs who have put the spotlight on him. Aston Villa, for example, are following him with interest.”
Villa are also reportedly preparing a £12million bid for Swansea City striker Danny Graham to fire them out of relegation trouble.
