San Siro side keen on Etihad Stadium forward.
Inter Milan have opened talks with the agent of Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko over a move to the San Siro, according to sources in Italy.
Inter are now prepared to offer him an escape route from the Etihad Stadium as they eye a long-term replacement for Argentina striker Diego Milito.
The 2010 European champions have conducted preliminary discussions with Dzeko’s representative in their bid to sound the 26-year-old out over a January switch.
Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko has been handed a flurry of Premier League starts in recent weeks but has on the whole played second, third, or even fourth fiddle in Roberto Mancini’s Man City starting eleven.
The likes of Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez have been handed more playing this this term though Dzeko certainly deserves more action in terms of his current strike rate. The 26 year old, who cost Mancini £27m two years ago, has made just seven top tier starts but has netted nine goals in the process and is the Premier League club’s top scorer.
Interest from Inter Milan may tempt the former Wolfsburg man as he may feel his chances of securing regular first team football at the San Siro are markedly more likely than if he were to continue to fight to prove himself to Mancini.
One would have to wonder at the wisdom of Mancini’s purchasing of the powerful forward in the first place as it appears Dzeko has never been thought of as a regular first choice starter unless injuries or poor form dictated it so.
Edin Dzeko has scored 35 goals in 91 appearances for Man City, a statistic that is all the more impressive when you consider 40 of those appearances came from the bench.
