Old Trafford side target Rayo Vallecano youngster.
Spanish source AS claim that Man United scout, and Sir Alex Ferguson’s brother, has been on a scouting mission to assess Rayo Vallecano striker Leo Baptistao.
The Old Trafford side representative will have been impressed with the 20 year old’s showing in his side’s excellent 3-1 win over city rivals Getafe.
AS go on to claim that interest in the young Brazilian is with a view to replacing Mexican Javier Hernandez, who has been in excellent form this season but is still very much a back-up option for Sir Alex Ferguson.
Baptistao was brought in by Rayo Vallecano as the Madrid based side looked to replace Swansea City bound Michu and the youngster has shown great potential, netting six goals and providing four assists in 12 La Liga matches this season.
Last term Vallecano were struggling at the wrong end of the table but are now pushing towards the top six and this run of success has led to interest in a number of Paco Jémez’s first team squad, including forward Piti and keeper David Cobeno.
Perhaps Chicharito believes that at his age he can no longer afford to sit on the bench waiting for injuries to others or a team-mate’s loss of form in order to garner first team football.
Whereas a youngster like Baptistao may be more amenable to a supporting role.
Man United youngster Angelo Henriquez has been loaned out to Wigan and Federico Macheda may well be offloaded after seeing his career go backwards after an explosive start to his career at the Premier League giants.
