Alan Pardew is reportedly confident that Newcastle United will win the race to sign Marseille forward Loic Remy, despite interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Schalke, who can both offer the French international Champions League football this season.
However just in case the Magpies fail in pursuit of one Ligue 1 forward they are ready to make an offer for another.
The St James’ Park side have scouted £6m rated Saint-Etienne forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a potential replacement for Demba Ba, who joined Chelsea earlier this month when his £7.5m release clause was triggered by the Stamford Bridge side.
Saint-Etienne forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has put in some excellent displays over the past six months, netting eight goals thus far this term for Christophe Galtier’s side.
The 23 year old Gabon international rose to prominence as a teenager at AC Milan, joining the club’s youth team in January 2007. The French born striker failed to make the grade at the San Siro and was farmed out to a number of sides including Monaco and Lille before moving to Saint-Etienne where he has been a consistent performer.
Aubameyang netted 16 Ligue 1 goals last term and has continued to impress this season leading to a great deal of interest from across Europe.
