Emirates Stadium side want to snap up target man ‘immediately’.
German source Bild claims that Arsenal want to sign Mainz forward Adám Szalai ‘immediately’ as Gunners boss Arsene Wenger looks to bring in fresh attacking talent to boost his Emirates Stadium squad this month.
The Hungarian international netted just three Bundesliga goals throughout 2011/12 but has been in excellent form this current campaign, with the 25 year old scoring nine goals in 17 appearances for Mainz, helping Thomas Tuchel’s side push there way up into the top six.
The big target man moved to the Coface Arena following three years in Real Madrid’s B team, scoring regularly but at no point moving up into the Bernabeu first team squad.
Arsene Wenger may well be looking to bring in attacking reinforcements but one wonders if a move to bring in Szalai is going to suffice. The North London club have recently opted to use Theo Walcott in a striking role with positive results and this may lessen the need to an extent.
However the Arsenal boss will be all too aware that this term is something of a pivotal one and anything less than Champions League qualification for next term may well lead to a whole new level of dissatisfaction among the club’s supporters.
