Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with a host of young midfielders as he looks to find long term replacements for evergreen veterans like Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs and arguably Lars Bender ticks many of the boxes in terms of being a competent talent with the potential to bloom into a quality talent.
The 23 year old midfielder has been in good form for Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen and has begun to attract a number of interested suitors. The former 1860 Munich player has enjoyed steady progress at the BayArena over the past three seasons and is now a regular in Joachim Low’s German national team set-up.
Lars Bender is a box to box midfielder who’s tireless running has been of great use to Sami Hyypiä’s side and it’s no surprise that a number of Europe’s ‘Elite’ would be taking an interest in the Bavarian born youngster.
Bender has made 103 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen and has helped the club to two top four finishes in the past three seasons. He has also collected ten national team caps since his debut for Die Mannschaft in 2011.
Michael Carrick has been the one constant in Ferguson’s midfield this term, with Anderson, Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher and the aforementioned duo Scholes and Giggs playing less frequent roles in the Man United first team. Bender could be just the right fit for the Old Trafford boss and a £12m valuation seems very reasonable in today’s inflated transfer market.
