Having completed the £2.5million capture of French under-21 international Alfred N’Diaye from Turkish side Bursaspor on Wednesday to boost his options in midfield, the 19-year-old Ba has emerged as the latest target for O’Neill.
Despite currently playing in the second tier of French football, Le Havre will ask for around £4.5million for Ba, who has been capped at under-20 level by France.
Sunderland will face competition from German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund for his signature as well as top-flight clubs in France. Tottenham also were once linked with a move for the midfielder.
“To be honest, I am flattered by my name being mentioned with clubs such as Sunderland and Dortmund,” Ba told Sky Sports. “Nothing has been decided yet, but Le Havre will be the one to decide if they still want to keep me at the club.”
Sunderland are also in for Danny Graham, who could complete a £4million move from Swansea City back to his native north-east, and Anderlecht’s Hungarian international defender Roland Juhasz is also a possible signing.
