Stamford Bridge side hope to lure Dutch international to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are readying a last ditch move to land Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder, with the Dutchman said to be in advanced talks with Turkish giants Galatasaray.
The 28 year old is seemingly set to leave the San Siro this month and Inter Milan have already accepted an offer from Galatasaray but any move to the Istanbul club will entail the former Ajax and Real Madrid man taking a hefty pay-cut and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to make an offer he hopes will lure the talented midfielder to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea will meet the €10m (£8.3m) Inter Milan asking price and will apparently over a salary far nearer to Sneijder’s current £220k a week than Galatasaray are willing to offer.
Abramovich is looking to bring in a goal-scoring creative midfield presence as a medium term replacement for veteran Frank Lampard, who is expected to leave Chelsea in the summer when his contract comes to a close.
A move to join the Champions League holders may well tempt Sneijder, who is said to be open to a move to the Premier League, with a number of English top tier sides previously displaying an interest in the Dutch international.
Things have turned sour for Sneijder at Inter Milan after he was frozen out of the Nerazzurri first team earlier this season.
The Utrecht born midfielder claimed a Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League treble in his first season at Inter Milan but has been less impressive over the course of the past two seasons, during which the Italian giants have gone through a succession of manager’s and surprisingly failed to secure a Champions League berth for the current campaign.
Abramovich is keen to bring in a ‘marquee’ signing this month to appease the club’s supporters after a less than satisfying first half of the season that saw Chelsea dumped out of the Champions League at the first hurdle and falling some way off the Premier League title pace.
