Groningen star Van Dijk aware of Everton interest.
Everton have expressed an interest in signing defender Virgil Van Dijk from FC Groningen in this month’s transfer window, although the Dutch Eredivisie side don’t expect to him to leave.
Capped twice at under-21 level by Holland, Van Dijk is a rising start of the Dutch league with plenty of scouts having watched him in action this season. It is interest from Everton that has got the player himself excited, but Groningen do not expect to be doing a deal.

“I know certain clubs are following me and that Everton are one of them,” Van Dijk told Voetbal International.
“I have heard and read a lot about it and after the winter training camp I will sit down with my agent Henk-Maarten Chin and catch up with where we stand.
“Of course I am flattered by the interest, but I have to make sure I make the best choice for my future career.”
Griningen general director Hans Nijland said: “I don’t expect Virgil to leave. No clubs have made official contact with us regarding a possible deal and therefore we don’t need to talk about it.”
Everton have been linked with moves for Norwegian and Manchester City’s Joleon Lescott, who has since turned down all prospect of leaving the Etihad. Leighton Baines has been the subject of interest too from Manchester United and Chelsea, while Johnny Heitinga’s future could lie elsewhere.
