Spaniard admits to wanting Premier League switch?
Spain striker Alvaro Negredo has heightened talk of a move to north London rivals Arsenal or Tottenham after admitting he is desperate for a move to the Premier League.
Negredo has been made available for transfer by cash-strapped Seville, who are keen to ease the financial burden on the club by selling the 27-year-old forward for around £18million.
Arsenal and Tottenham are both on the lookout for a new striker and Negredo has opened up a bidding war between the bitter rivals after declaring his intent on moving to England following talks with international team-mates Juan Mata and Fernando Torres.
“The Premier League is a great competition, I really like it and I think my style of football would be well suited to it,” he is quoted as saying by the Daily Star on Sunday.
“There comes a time when a cycle comes to an end and I don’t know whether my time will be sooner or later. I haven’t thought about it a lot but I wouldn’t mind playing abroad.
“I’ve spoken to the guys playing in England, mainly when we were together at Euro 2012. I spoke to Mata and Torres and they say it is easier to go out and about in England as there is not as much scrutiny as in Spain. I like that.”
Negredo could have been joining Chelsea, but the arrival of Demba Ba at Stamford Bridge has scuppered any move. Tottenham look the most likely destination now with coach Andre Villas-Boas desperately seeking a new striker following Emmanuel Adebayor’s call-up to the Mali squad for the African Nations Cup.
