Midfielder to turn down chance of switch to Anfield.
Liverpool transfer target Kevin Grosskreutz is to turn down the chance of a move to Anfield in favour of fighting for his place in the first-team at German champions Borussia Dortmund.
German international Grosskreutz has lost his place in the Dortmund midfield, with the arrival of Nuri Sahin, who has just left Liverpool after spending the opening half of the season at Anfield, on loan from Real Madrid will further hamper his opportunities.
He was linked with a move to Anfield with manager Brendan Rodgers looking to add to his squad in the transfer window. But the 24-year-old midfielder has no intention of discussing a move to Liverpool – or any other club for that matter – and will stay and fight for his place.
“I have no trouble with Borussia Dortmund and, basically, I don’t want to leave,” Grosskreutz told Sport Bild. “I am not giving up just because I am not in the first team. Borussia Dortmund always were and still are my favourite club.
“Until now I have not been offered a new deal that I could sign straight away, but I am looking forward to receiving that kind of proposal.”
