Starlet set to completed Etihad Stadium switch.
Teenage talent Will Hughes is nearing a transfer to Premier League champions Manchester City after assistant manager David Platt personally checked on the Derby County midfielder at the weekend.
Platt was 17-year-old Hughes, one of the stars of the Championship, in action at Brighton on Saturday and Manchester City are now set for discussions with Derby County over the England under-21 international.
The Sun report that Manchester City will pay £7million for the teenager, who has also been tracked by Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea among others, while The Mirror report that the deal could reach £10million with a £6million fee plus the loan of some of City’s talented youngsters.
Mancini is keen to add to his midfielder options with Yaya Toure missing until February while on African Nations Cup duty and City are keen not to miss out on Hughes, who like the Ivory Coast international is an energetic box-to-box midfielder, to one of their Premier League rivals.
Spanish giants Barcelona have also performed checks on Hughes, who only made his first-team debut last season and who has yet to clock up 50 professional appearances in the Championship, at Pride Park this season.
