Benfica duo on way to Old Trafford?
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is preparing a double transfer deal for Benfica’s Argentine pair Ezequiel Garay and Nicolas Gaitan which could cost upwards of £40million.
Portuguese newspaper Record report that United are interested in buying both players in a similar swoop on the Portuguese Primera Liga to the one which saw him take Cristiano Ronaldo and then Nani to Old Trafford.
United were thought to be close to signing 24-year-old Argentina international Gaitan in the summer, only for a deal for the £30million-rated former Boca Juniors wideman to fail to come off, according to the Daily Star.
But that has not put off Old Trafford officials, who are reported to have watched Gaitan in action against FC Porto on Sunday night along with his team-mate Garay who is now in Portugal after failing to make the grade at Real Madrid.
Garay, also capped by Argentina, has got his career back on track at the Estadio da Luz after struggling for first-team opportunities at Real Madrid. But any move for the 26-year-old would be complicated due to the fact Madrid are entitled to half of the transfer fee as part of the agreement struck when selling him to Benfica.
