Zambian on way to the Madejski Stadium for talks.
Premier League strugglers Reading are to boost their chances of avoiding relegation back to the Championship by signing Zambian defender Stoppila Sunzu.
The 23-year-old is on his way to the Madejski Stadium for contract talks and a medical after Reading agreed terms with his club TP Mazembe, who play in the DR Congo league, over a transfer to England.
Sunzu had also been on Arsenal’s radar, but will join Reading’s survival bid providing he passes the medical, Sportinglife report.
TP Mazembe president Moses Katumbi said: “Indeed, Sunzu is heading to Reading for tests after the agreement by TP Mazembe and the Zambia Federation. He just sent us a message in which he thanked the club.”
Reading manager Brian McDermott has been desperate to bring in new faces to help the club escape the drop zone and avoid an immediate relegation from the Premier League.
Sunzu will be the fourth new signing in the January transfer window with full-back Stephen Kelly having already signed from Fulham for an undisclosed fee, fellow defender Daniel Carrico snapped up from Sporting Lisbon for £610,000 and midfielder Hope Akpan joining for an undisclosed fee from Crawley Town.
