Arsene Wenger’s long term Emirates Stadium plan of selling his best players and failing to adequately replace them is going according to plan.
This season was in many ways supposed to be something of a defining moment in the recent history of the North London club. It certainly should’ve been one that saw Arsene Wenger scrambling for some iota of success that would help to garner a modicum of support from the ever reducing number of supporters who still had faith in both the Gunners boss and those in the Arsenal board.
However the current campaign is threatening to peter out into yet another ‘season of transition’. Arsenal now sit 21 points off top of the table Man United, who are of course ever so grateful to Wenger for selling them the veritable goal machine that is Robin Van Persie.
A Capital One Cup disaster at Valley Parade saw one avenue of silverware vanish, a tricky trip to the Liberty Stadium this week could end the club’s FA Cup run at the first hurdle and then Arsenal go up against runaway Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Even the ‘trophy’ that is a top four finish seemingly hangs in the balance after defeat to Man City left Arsenal six points off local rivals Tottenham.
This lack of tangible success could lie in the fact that the current Arsenal squad is chock-a-block with players who are simply not good enough to represent a club that should be genuine Premier League title challengers. To prove this point, here are a list of the top ten list of worst players at the club.
Perhaps most worryingly this list could in fact have been made longer….
10. Aaron Ramsey
A player who arrived with something of a fanfare, considered as one of the best young talents in British football. Clearly this was not the case.
Yes his career has been greatly affected by a reckless challenge but that’s no excuse for the displays the Welshman puts in week in, week out. Possibly the worst aspect of Ramsey’s performances is the mistaken belief he appears to have in himself. This is most evident when he looks to pull off a raking 60 yard pass, that invariably skies over Bacary Sagna’s head.
Oh yes, and there’s the small matter of his penchant for scoring goals that then lead to celebrity deaths.
