The Saints appear to have beaten off interest from both Merseyside clubs Everton and Liverpool to sign the in-form centre-back, who Nigel Adkins hopes will help to steady things at the back.
The deal is said to have cost the St Mary’s club £3.5m and the 24 year old has put pen to paper on a four and a half year contract. He is due to be unveiled later today.
Forren has helped Solskjaer’s Molde side to back to back domestic titles and has been scouted by a number of Premier League sides this term.
The one club man rejected a move to Belgium last summer.
