Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has turned his attentions to £8million rated French youngster Gilbert Imbula as he looks to bring in new talent in the January transfer window.

Despite confirming that Theo Walcott has signed a new contract and committed his future to the club, Wenger has yet to make a breakthrough in the transfer market despite being linked with moves for Barcelona’s David Villa, Napoli’s Edinson Cavani and Everton’s Marouane Fellaini among so many others.

And, according to the Daily Mail, the Arsenal manager is set to place an £8million offer to buy unproven defensive midfielder Imbula, who has caught the eye playing in Ligue 2 in France for Guingamp this season.

The Belgian-born 20-year-old Imbula, who also qualifies for the DR Congo, created history in the Ligue 2 when making his debut for Guingamp in 2009 as he was the youngest ever player in the league’s history at the age of 17.

Premier League rivals Chelsea are set to battle with Arsenal for Imbula’s signature having watched the youngster in action, while Ligue 1 giants Lyon are also understood to be keen on signing him and keeping him in France.
