Republic of Ireland international winger Aiden McGeady could be on his way to the Premier League with Wigan Athletic keen on securing a loan deal for the remainder of the season, according to The Daily Mail.

McGeady made his name at Celtic before moving to Spartak Moscow in Russia in a £9.5million dealtwo-and-a-half years ago, but he has yet to taste life in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old has been a hit in Russia, but Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is trying to secure a loan move for the tricky wideman before the end of the month as he looks to bring in new faces to assist the club’s fight against the drop.

McGeady would link up with his former Celtic team-mate Shaun Moloney at the DW Stadium if making the switch to the north-west, and he would become Martinez’s fourth addition following the signings of Roger Espinoza, Angelo Henriquez and Joel Robles.

Martinez had made it his main priority to bring in a new defender to the club after Iva Ramis was ruled out for some time, joining Antolin Alcaraz on the sidelines. He has been linked with a move for Liverpool’s Sebastian Coates and Wolves’ Ronald Zubar.
