Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will reportedly make a summer move for Derby County teenager Will Hughes. Having won the race to sign Crystal Palace attacker Wilfried Zaha the Scot has now set his sights on another Championship purchase.

The 17 year old midfielder has been in hugely impressive form since breaking into the Rams first team last term and has already picked up an England Under 21 cap. Man City and Liverpool have both said to have sent scouts to monitor the youngster but Ferguson hopes to beat off interest from his fellow Premier League suitors.

The Old Trafford manager is looking to freshen up a midfield that still depends greatly on senior players like Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick and believes Hughes has the potential to be a big success and hopes to sign the Derby County starlet in the summer.

Ferguson has developed a taste for bringing in youthful talents to help take over from his old guard, the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Javier Hernandez and David de Gea have all made instant impacts at the club and the Man United boss will hope that more recent acquisitions Nick Powell and Angelo Henriquez will do likewise.

Derby County boss Nigel Clough will fight hard to keep hold of Hughes but may struggle to prevent the youngster from having his head turned by interest from the higher reaches of the Premier League.

Hughes has played in all 28 of Derby County’s Championship fixtures this season.
