Anfield side target Lazio striker.
Liverpool have joined the chase to sign Lazio forward Mauro Zarate according to the Express.
The 25 year old is a player who has at time promised a great deal but has consistently failed to deliver and is now seemingly surplus to requirements at the Stadio Olimpico, having made just one Serie A appearance for the Rome side this term.
Newcastle United vs Liverpool tickets still available
The Argentine forward spent last season on loan at Inter Milan where he managed three goals in 31 appearances, albeit a great number of those coming from the bench and now the adaptable forward, who can play either out wide or in a central role, is being linked with a selection of Premier League sides.
Sunderland and Stoke believed to be keen on the Lazio man and now Liverpool are taking an interest as Brendan Rodgers looks to further strengthen his strike-force.
The Anfield boss brought in Daniel Sturridge earlier in the month but is still not overly blessed with attacking options. Luis Suarez has been in excellent form this term but Italian Fabio Borini failed to impress before suffering a foot injury, he returned to action against during the club’s embarrassing FA Cup defeat at Oldham and didn’t impress.
One has to wonder if a move for Zarate is one that Liverpool should really be considering.
