Arsenal are reportedly readying a move to sign Athletic Bilbao centre-back Fernando Amorebieta according to Tribalfootball.

Gunners chief scout Steve Rowley has apparently been tracking the Venezuelan international and though there was talk of a possible move to sign the 27 year old in January it now seems that Wenger will look to make a contract offer for the towering defender in the summer.

Amorebieta will be out of contract by that time and will therefore be able to secure a better salary and may well be tempted by a move to the North London club.

Wenger may be keen on beefing up his back-line with Johan Djourou likely to push for a permanent exit following his loan spell at Hannover. The Arsenal boss is also looking to find a buyer for veteran defender Sebastien Squillaci.

Amorebieta has been at San Mames for almost eight years and has racked up over 200 appearances and seems likely to be the latest big name to leave the Basque club with Javi Martinez leaving for Bayern Munich last summer and Fernando Llorente due to join Juventus at the end of the current campaign.
